Starlings

Here, they are hated. Resented for their aggressiveness and abundance. Introduced in 1890 by someone who was trying to bring every bird species mentioned in Shakespeare to America. Wow. Those 80 starlings have grown to more than 200 million.

Often, starlings will lay their eggs in other birds’ nests. And, of course, the starling will win out against the other chick.

But, in Europe, especially England, they are beloved. Perhaps more so because their numbers are in decline. Starling murmurations are a sight to behold. So, in honor of those who love these black passerines, I thought you might like to listen about them here.
